A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the purchase of classroom sets of textbooks for public |
|
|
schools. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 31.101(c-1), Education Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
(c-1) Notwithstanding any other provision of this chapter, |
|
|
a school district or open-enrollment charter school must purchase a |
|
|
classroom set of textbooks adopted by the State Board of Education |
|
|
under Section 31.023 or 31.035: |
|
|
(1) for each subject and grade level in the foundation |
|
|
[and enrichment] curriculum; and |
|
|
(2) for each subject and grade level in the enrichment |
|
|
curriculum offered by the district or charter school. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
