A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a limitation on the authority to cancel a voter's |
|
|
registration. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 16, Election Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 16.039 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 16.039. CANCELLATION PROHIBITED IN PREELECTION |
|
|
PERIOD. A voter registrar may not cancel a voter's registration, |
|
|
other than a cancellation on request by the voter under Section |
|
|
16.0331, in the six months preceding the general election for state |
|
|
and county officers. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
