A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|

|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a requirement for photo identification for poll |
|
|
watchers. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 33.051(b), Election Code, is amended to |
|
|
read as follows: |
|
|
(b) The officer presented with a watcher's certificate of |
|
|
appointment shall require the watcher to countersign the |
|
|
certificate and to present a form of photo identification described |
|
|
by Section 63.0101 to ensure that the watcher is the same person who |
|
|
signed the certificate. Except as provided by Subsection (c), a |
|
|
watcher who presents himself or herself at the proper time with a |
|
|
certificate of appointment and appropriate identification shall be |
|
|
accepted for service unless the person is ineligible to serve or the |
|
|
number of appointees to which the appointing authority is entitled |
|
|
have already been accepted. |

|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
