A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to requiring State Board of Education approval to offer |
|
advanced placement and international baccalaureate courses in |
|
public high schools. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 28.0091 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 28.0091. STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION APPROVAL REQUIRED TO |
|
OFFER CERTAIN COLLEGE CREDIT COURSES. (a) Notwithstanding Section |
|
28.009 or any other law, a school district may not offer an advanced |
|
placement or international baccalaureate course unless the course |
|
has been approved by the State Board of Education as a course that |
|
sufficiently provides instruction in the essential knowledge and |
|
skills appropriate to the subject and grade level of the course. |
|
(b) The State Board of Education by rule shall establish |
|
procedures for approving advanced placement and international |
|
baccalaureate courses as provided by this section. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016 |
|
school year. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
