relating to providing, facilitating, or aiding the use of solar | ||
power or other alternative energy source in public schools. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Amend the Texas Education Code by adding new | ||
chapter 2001 to read as follows: | ||
CHAPTER 2001 - Solar Power for Texas Schools | ||
Sec. 2001.01. SOLAR POWER AND ALTERNATIVE ENERGY FOR TEXAS | ||
PUBLIC SCHOOLS. The use of solar power or other alternate forms of | ||
energy by public schools shall be facilitated, provided, subsidized | ||
and prioritized. | ||
Sec. 2001.02. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY. The Texas Education | ||
Agency shall adopt rules pertaining to implementation of this Act. | ||
Sec. 2001.03. THE GOALS OF THE STATE OF TEXAS. It shall be | ||
the goals of the state of Texas: | ||
(1) to seek ways for public schools to become more energy | ||
efficient and to use alternate forms of energy in order to use | ||
governmental buildings to create energy where possible; | ||
(2) to use state equipment and state buildings, including | ||
schools, to reduce carbon dioxide emissions; | ||
(3) to set goals relating to schools use of demand response, | ||
energy conservation, and carbon dioxide reduction. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
