A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to providing, facilitating, or aiding the use of solar |
|
power or other alternative energy source in public schools. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Amend the Texas Education Code by adding new |
|
chapter 2001 to read as follows: |
|
|
|
CHAPTER 2001 - Solar Power for Texas Schools |
|
Sec. 2001.01. SOLAR POWER AND ALTERNATIVE ENERGY FOR TEXAS |
|
PUBLIC SCHOOLS. The use of solar power or other alternate forms of |
|
energy by public schools shall be facilitated, provided, subsidized |
|
and prioritized. |
|
Sec. 2001.02. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY. The Texas Education |
|
Agency shall adopt rules pertaining to implementation of this Act. |
|
Sec. 2001.03. THE GOALS OF THE STATE OF TEXAS. It shall be |
|
the goals of the state of Texas: |
|
(1) to seek ways for public schools to become more energy |
|
efficient and to use alternate forms of energy in order to use |
|
governmental buildings to create energy where possible; |
|
(2) to use state equipment and state buildings, including |
|
schools, to reduce carbon dioxide emissions; |
|
(3) to set goals relating to schools use of demand response, |
|
energy conservation, and carbon dioxide reduction. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
