relating to a study on uranium deposits in this state. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. DEFINITION. In this Act, "commission" means the | ||
Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. | ||
SECTION 2. STUDY ON URANIUM DEPOSITS IN THIS STATE. The | ||
commission shall conduct a study on the uranium deposits in this | ||
state and how utilizing those deposits could lessen the United | ||
States' reliance on foreign sources of uranium. | ||
SECTION 3. REPORT. Not later than December 1, 2024, the | ||
commission shall submit to the governor, lieutenant governor, and | ||
speaker of the house of representatives a report that includes the | ||
findings of the study and any recommendations for legislative or | ||
other action. The report must include recommendations for | ||
legislative or regulatory changes and potential economic incentive | ||
programs to support the uranium mining industry in this state. | ||
SECTION 4. EXPIRATION. This Act expires January 1, 2025. | ||
SECTION 5. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect | ||
immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members | ||
elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas | ||
Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for | ||
immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
