A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the required minutes of service during each school day
  for a classroom teacher in public schools.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 21.401, Education Code, is amended by
  adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:
         (e)  A contract between a school district and a classroom
  teacher may not require the teacher to work more than 510 minutes
  during each day of service.
         SECTION 2.  Section 21.401(e), Education Code, as added by
  this Act, applies only to a contract executed on or after the
  effective date of this Act. A contract executed before the
  effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the
  day the contract was executed, and the former law is continued in
  effect for that purpose.
         SECTION 3.  This Act applies beginning with the 2021-2022
  school year.
         SECTION 4.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
