A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the use of a political contribution to pay a civil |
|
|
penalty or fine imposed by the Texas Ethics Commission. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 253.035, Election Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (c-1) to read as follows: |
|
|
(c-1) The prohibitions prescribed by Subsections (a) and |
|
|
(b) include the personal use of a political contribution to pay a |
|
|
civil penalty or fine imposed by the commission. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 253.035(c-1), Election Code, as added by |
|
|
this Act, applies only to the payment of a civil penalty or fine |
|
|
imposed by the Texas Ethics Commission on or after the effective |
|
|
date of this Act. The payment of a civil penalty or fine imposed by |
|
|
the Texas Ethics Commission before the effective date of this Act is |
|
|
governed by the law in effect on the date the penalty or fine is |
|
|
imposed, and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
