AN ACT
|
|
relating to membership of the state continuing advisory committee |
|
for special education services. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 29.006, Education Code, is amended to |
|
read as follows: |
|
Sec. 29.006. CONTINUING ADVISORY COMMITTEE. (a) The |
|
governor shall appoint a continuing advisory committee, composed of |
|
17 members, under 20 U.S.C. Section 1412(a)(21). At least one |
|
member appointed under this subsection must be a director of |
|
special education programs for a school district or for a shared |
|
services arrangement of multiple school districts as provided by |
|
Section 29.007. |
|
(b) The appointments are not subject to confirmation by the |
|
senate. |
|
(c) Members of the committee are appointed for staggered |
|
terms of four years with the terms of eight or nine members expiring |
|
on February 1 of each odd-numbered year. |
|
SECTION 2. Not later than February 1, 2013, the governor |
|
shall appoint a member to the continuing advisory committee as |
|
necessary to ensure that the composition of the committee complies |
|
with Section 29.006, Education Code, as amended by this Act. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
