R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Proud residents of Liberty County are gathering in |
|
Austin on February 19, 2025, to celebrate Liberty County Day at the |
|
State Capitol; and |
|
WHEREAS, Liberty County was established in 1836 as part of |
|
the independent Republic of Texas, with Liberty as the county seat. |
|
Originally, the county included all of what would become Tyler |
|
County and parts of Hardin, Chambers, San Jacinto, and Polk |
|
Counties; and |
|
WHEREAS, Located midway between Beaumont and Houston, |
|
Liberty County is divided by the Trinity River and features both |
|
Coastal Prairie and Big Thicket landscapes. The economy initially |
|
thrived on crops like cotton, sugarcane, and tobacco, as well as |
|
lumber and cattle. In the early 1900s, it diversified with the |
|
increased cultivation of rice and the discovery of oil and natural |
|
gas; and |
|
WHEREAS, Liberty County boasts a rich history and abundant |
|
natural resources, and its residents can take great pride in their |
|
achievements as they continue to work toward an even brighter |
|
future; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize February 19, 2025, as Liberty County |
|
Day at the State Capitol and extend sincere best wishes to the |
|
visiting delegation for a meaningful and memorable stay in Austin. |
