R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The citizens of San Augustine are mourning the loss |
|
of Woodrow Wayne "Woody" Harrison, who passed away on December 14, |
|
2014, at the age of 72; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Houston on November 19, 1942, to Woodrow and |
|
Lucille Harrison, Woody Harrison attended St. Thomas High School |
|
and went on to earn a bachelor of science degree and a double |
|
master's degree in management and public administration; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Harrison served his country for more than four |
|
decades, first as a military officer and then as a private |
|
contractor; a graduate of the Command and General Staff College of |
|
the U.S. Army, this patriotic Texan flew more than 400 combat |
|
missions in Vietnam as an army helicopter pilot; after leaving the |
|
military, he became an engineering services contractor, working on |
|
various projects for the Pentagon; he received a number of |
|
commendations for his work with the Department of Defense, |
|
including the prestigious Legion of Merit award; and |
|
WHEREAS, Following his retirement, Mr. Harrison moved back |
|
to Texas and became a prominent civic leader, assuming a number of |
|
leadership positions in the community; these roles included |
|
president of the chamber of commerce, post commander of the |
|
Veterans of Foreign Wars, president of the Main Street Advisory |
|
Board, and county chairman of the Republican Party; he was also an |
|
active member of the San Augustine Historical Society; in |
|
recognition of his outstanding service to his fellow citizens, he |
|
was named the 2012 Community Impact Volunteer of the Year for East |
|
Texas; and |
|
WHEREAS, In his spare time, Mr. Harrison pursued his passion |
|
for the performing arts, entertaining audiences at community |
|
theaters and at military venues around the world; he was a talented |
|
guitar player and vocalist and performed with a number of musical |
|
groups, from his high school rock-and-roll band to barbershop |
|
quartets; and |
|
WHEREAS, While Woody Harrison is deeply missed by all those |
|
who were privileged to know him, his legacy lives on in the |
|
community he was proud to call home; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Woodrow Wayne |
|
Harrison and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: |
|
to his wife, Glenda Harrison; to his son, Houston W. W. Harrison; to |
|
his daughter, Divini Creech; to his granddaughter, Misty Creech; to |
|
his brother, Rick Harrison, and his wife, Debbie; to his |
|
brother-in-law, Robert Ramey, and his wife, Sheila; and to his |
|
other relatives and many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Woodrow |
|
Wayne Harrison. |
