R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |
|
meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends |
|
of Cecil Alvis Staples of Palestine, who passed away on November 16, |
|
2010, at the age of 77; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Anderson County on March 23, 1933, to Claude |
|
and Georgia Martin Staples, Cecil Staples worked in logging camps |
|
in East Texas when he was young and later served in the U.S. Army; he |
|
was employed by the Glass Containers Corporation for 36 years, and |
|
he was president of Local 90 of the Glass Bottle Blowers' |
|
Association for more than two decades; and |
|
WHEREAS, This hardworking Texan also ran a cattle operation |
|
and a tree service for many years, living his childhood dream of |
|
owning land and livestock; in 1984, he opened Staples Greenhouse in |
|
Palestine with his twin brother, Chester, and the pair managed the |
|
business until 2002; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of strong faith, Mr. Staples was a longtime |
|
member of Norwood Heights Baptist Church, where he served as a |
|
Sunday school teacher and a deacon; in all of his endeavors, he |
|
enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Carol Wooten Staples, and |
|
together they welcomed into their family five children, Cecil, |
|
Brenda, Todd, Julie, and Candice, as well as numerous grandchildren |
|
and great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although he is deeply missed, Cecil Staples will |
|
long be remembered with great fondness and affection by all those |
|
who were privileged to share in the richness of his life; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Cecil Alvis Staples |
|
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
|
wife of 56 years, Carol Wooten Staples; to his children, Cecil A. |
|
Staples and his wife, Dana, Brenda Boyd, Texas Agriculture |
|
Commissioner Todd Staples and his wife, Janet, and Julie Staples; |
|
to his grandchildren, Kyle Blanton and his wife, Jennifer, Grant |
|
Staples, Scott Staples, Jordan Staples, Jason Boyd and his wife, |
|
Emily, Alexandra Naismith and her husband, Clint, Jared Staples, |
|
Elizabeth Staples, Brian Thorn and his wife, Jamie, and Jonathan |
|
Thorn and his wife, Toni; to his three great-grandchildren; to his |
|
brother, Chester Staples; to his sister, Theresa Spitchley; to his |
|
nieces and nephews; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Cecil Alvis |
|
Staples. |
