R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Center for Public Policy Priorities in Austin is |
|
celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, CPPP evolved from the Benedictine Resource Center, |
|
which was founded by the Congregation of Benedictine Sisters in the |
|
mid-1980s in Boerne; the group opened an Austin office to examine |
|
health care issues, and eventually that location became a |
|
broad-based policy research center, adopting its current name in |
|
1991 and becoming a 501(c)(3) organization in 1999; and |
|
WHEREAS, While continuing its work on health care, CPPP today |
|
is dedicated to changing public policy for the benefit of low- and |
|
moderate-income Texans, with an emphasis on improving nutrition, |
|
the state's workforce, economic development, and child well-being; |
|
the organization pursues its goals through a combination of |
|
research, analysis, education, and communication, and through the |
|
years, it has achieved a variety of successes, with numerous state |
|
initiatives and policies growing directly out of its solutions and |
|
proposals; and |
|
WHEREAS, CPPP is also distinguished as the Texas home to KIDS |
|
COUNT, a state-by-state and county-by-county effort to track and |
|
address the needs of children, and it is part of other national |
|
efforts such as the State Fiscal Analysis Initiative and the |
|
Economic Analysis and Research Network; and |
|
WHEREAS, Focused solely on evaluating public policy as it |
|
affects the least fortunate Texans, CPPP serves as a vital |
|
nonpartisan resource for leaders, policymakers, citizens, and |
|
organizations across the state, and it is indeed fitting to |
|
recognize the center on the occasion of this milestone year; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor the Center for Public |
|
Policy Priorities on its 25th anniversary and extend to all those |
|
affiliated with the organization sincere best wishes for continued |
|
success with their important work; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for CPPP as an expression of high regard by the Texas House |
|
of Representatives. |
