R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Robstown High School baseball team enjoyed a |
|
memorable 2016-2017 season, advancing all the way to the Class 4A |
|
regional finals of the University Interscholastic League state |
|
playoffs; and |
|
WHEREAS, After finishing the regular season as the District |
|
31 runner-up, the Cotton Pickers began their postseason run with |
|
victories over Grulla, Cuero, and Hidalgo High Schools; in the |
|
regional semifinals, they faced off against Sealy High School, |
|
clinching the series with wins in Games 1 and 3 to earn a slot in the |
|
Region IV finale; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Robstown players claimed a triumphant 6-0 |
|
shutout against their district rivals from Sinton High School in |
|
the series opener before a loss in Game 2 led to a third meeting; the |
|
Cotton Pickers gave a valiant effort in Game 3, in which they forced |
|
extra innings late in the seventh but ultimately fell short, |
|
concluding an impressive season with an overall record of 25 wins, |
|
11 losses, and one tie; and |
|
WHEREAS, Robstown's many achievements were the result of a |
|
true team effort, and under the able guidance of head coach Elias |
|
Vasquez and his staff, these fine young athletes received vital |
|
contributions throughout the year from each member of the roster; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, With their fine showing in the 2017 campaign, the |
|
Cotton Pickers continued the Robstown High School tradition of |
|
athletic excellence, and the team members may take justifiable |
|
pride in the skill and dedication they have demonstrated; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Robstown |
|
High School baseball team on advancing to the 4A regional finals of |
|
the 2017 UIL playoffs and extend to the players, coaches, and staff |
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
