WHEREAS, The Honorable John Board retired as judge of the | ||
181st Judicial District in October 2020, drawing to a close two | ||
decades of exemplary service to the citizens of Potter and Randall | ||
Counties; and | ||
WHEREAS, First appointed to the bench in August 2000 by | ||
Governor George W. Bush to fill out the term of the previous judge, | ||
John Board was then placed on the ballot by the local Republican | ||
Party chairs and elected to the position in November of that year; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, In 2007, Judge Board helped create the | ||
Accountability Court to address offenders who violated probation, | ||
usually because of problems with drugs or alcohol; in October 2010, | ||
he played a vital role in the establishment of a regional drug | ||
court, and the success of this program has led to a reduction in | ||
recidivism; and | ||
WHEREAS, Before his appointment to the court, Judge Board | ||
practiced as a litigator; he earned his bachelor's degree and his | ||
law degree from the University of Oklahoma, and he was admitted to | ||
the State Bar of Texas in 1988; he has also been admitted to | ||
practice in Oklahoma and before the Oklahoma Western District | ||
Court, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Texas Northern | ||
District Court; and | ||
WHEREAS, A leader in his field, Judge Board is a past member | ||
of the board of directors of the Texas Center for the Judiciary, | ||
where he helped promote judicial excellence and professionalism; in | ||
April 2014, he was honored by the State Bar of Texas for his | ||
contributions to the legal profession; and | ||
WHEREAS, John Board's dedication, integrity, and commitment | ||
to the law have greatly benefited the work of the 181st Judicial | ||
District and earned him the respect and admiration of his peers, and | ||
he may indeed reflect with pride on his service as he embarks on the | ||
next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate John Board on his retirement as | ||
judge of the 181st Judicial District and extend to him sincere best | ||
wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Judge Board as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. | ||
