R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Residents of Graham are mourning the loss of admired |
|
civic leader Roy Thomas Pitcock Sr., who passed away on March 17, |
|
2017, at the age of 87; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Louis and Medora Pitcock, Roy Pitcock was |
|
born in Sylvester on March 20, 1929; he graduated from Graham High |
|
School and completed his bachelor's degree in geology at Texas |
|
Christian University; on October 16, 1955, he married Jacqueline |
|
Garrison, and they became the parents of three daughters, Lindy, |
|
Melissa, and Allison; over the years, Mr. Pitcock also knew the joy |
|
of welcoming four grandchildren, Jeffery, Ryan, Bailey, and Jordan, |
|
and five great-grandchildren, Hailey, Thomas, Ben, Lily, and |
|
Hamlin, into his treasured family; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Pitcock began his career as a well-site |
|
geologist with his father's company, Rankin, Pitcock, and Karper; |
|
in 1957, he joined another family venture, Louis Pitcock Drilling |
|
Company, and he became president of its successor firm, Pitcock |
|
Incorporated, in 1969, upon the death of his father; over the course |
|
of more than six decades in the industry, he served in numerous |
|
leadership roles, including president of the West Central Texas Oil |
|
and Gas Association and director of the North Texas Oil and Gas |
|
Association, the Independent Petroleum Association of America, the |
|
Texas Alliance of Energy Producers, and the North Texas Geological |
|
Society; he was appointed by three governors to the Interstate Oil |
|
and Gas Compact Commission, and he received the prestigious |
|
Wildcatter Award from the WCTOGA and the Distinguished Service |
|
Award from the TAEP; in 1997, he was inducted into the TCU Hall of |
|
Fame; and |
|
WHEREAS, Deeply committed to his community, Mr. Pitcock |
|
served as a trustee of the Graham Independent School District, as a |
|
member of the Young County Appraisal Tax Board, and as a Graham city |
|
alderman for two terms; he also served as president of the Graham |
|
Lions Club and as a member of the boards of many organizations, |
|
among them the Graham Chamber of Commerce and the Graham Industrial |
|
Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan gave freely of his time and |
|
expertise to better his industry and his community, and he leaves a |
|
record of professional and civic contributions that his loved ones |
|
can remember with pride; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Roy Thomas Pitcock Sr. |
|
and extend sincere sympathy to all who mourn his passing; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roy Thomas |
