R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Organizing members of the Bosque River Valley |
|
Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution are gathering |
|
on February 2, 2013, for the inaugural meeting of their group; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1890, the Daughters of the American |
|
Revolution is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving |
|
American history, promoting patriotism, and advancing education |
|
for all; the DAR puts these principles into practice through a wide |
|
variety of activities, such as assisting veterans, providing |
|
scholarships, and supporting underserved schools; and |
|
WHEREAS, Charter members of the Bosque River Valley Chapter |
|
of the DAR selected the name of their group because of the river's |
|
significance to early settlers in the area; beginning in the |
|
mid-1800s, pioneer communities sprang up along the banks of the |
|
Bosque, and the abundant resources associated with the river proved |
|
essential to their survival; and |
|
WHEREAS, More than 30 women have joined together to organize |
|
the Bosque River Valley Chapter, among them the founding officers, |
|
regent Sue Moore Fielden; vice-regent Phyllis Alford Olson; |
|
chaplain Therissa Crabtree Young; recording secretary Ruth Ann |
|
Nelson Crawford; corresponding secretary MaryLynn Murphey Haynes; |
|
treasurer Ann Groom Lenz; registrar Naomi Young Nabors; historian |
|
Marilyn Maxwell Holland; and librarian Betty Urban Johannes; and |
|
WHEREAS, By establishing a local chapter of the DAR, the |
|
members of this group have demonstrated a notable commitment to |
|
conserving American history, and their organization will serve as a |
|
vital source for the transmission of knowledge and tradition for |
|
generations to come; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the founding of the Bosque River |
|
Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and |
|
extend to the chapter's members sincere best wishes for success; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the chapter as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
