R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Brock High School girls' basketball team added |
|
to its tradition of excellence on the hardwood by winning its fifth |
|
consecutive University Interscholastic League 2A state |
|
championship on March 2, 2013, at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Finishing with an outstanding record of 35 wins and |
|
just 5 losses, including a perfect 12-0 mark in district play, the |
|
Lady Eagles made a thrilling run through the postseason that |
|
included victories over Sunnyvale, Howe, Alba-Golden, and Alvord |
|
High Schools to reach the state tournament; after a resounding |
|
triumph in the semifinals against Centerville, Brock defeated |
|
Merkel in the title contest by a score of 40-32 to claim the eighth |
|
state crown in school history; and |
|
WHEREAS, Braylee Flaska scored 16 points in the tournament |
|
final to earn Most Valuable Player honors, and she was joined on the |
|
All-Tournament team by Cora Jenkins; the Lady Eagles also received |
|
significant contributions throughout the season from the other |
|
members of the roster: Rachel Harrell, Kylie Ducat, Sierra |
|
Bradshaw, Taylor Wallace, Cydnie Bynum, Bailey Ivey, Rachel |
|
Williams, Trisha Jacobs, Allie Popeck, Taylor Fulmer, and Lexie |
|
Ducat; and |
|
WHEREAS, The team was guided by head coach Chance |
|
Westmoreland and assistant coaches Jason Morales and Chrissy |
|
Worrell; additional support was provided by managers Shileigh Potts |
|
and Ashley Brawner, statisticians Madi Mayfield and Breana Madry, |
|
water girl Taylor Ducat, principal Jamie Payne, athletic director |
|
Scott Drillette, and superintendent Richard Tedder; and |
|
WHEREAS, In once again proving themselves to be the finest |
|
girls' 2A basketball squad in the Lone Star State, the Brock Lady |
|
Eagles have demonstrated exceptional teamwork and dedication, and |
|
their achievement is a source of tremendous pride to their school |
|
and their many supporters in the community; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Brock High School girls' |
|
basketball team on winning the 2013 UIL 2A state championship and |
|
extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best |
|
wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
