R E S O L U T I O N

|
WHEREAS, Stephen Foster Hill, head football coach at St. Pius |
|
|
X High School in Houston, has added to his notable record of success |
|
|
with his team's accomplishments during the 2016 season; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under the skillful leadership of Coach Hill, the |
|
|
Panthers clinched the 2016 district crown after going undefeated in |
|
|
regular season play; the squad then distinguished itself in the |
|
|
Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools state |
|
|
tournament, advancing all the way to the semifinals; Coach Hill |
|
|
also guided the St. Pius X players to the Texas State 7on7 |
|
|
Association Division 1 championship; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A native of Hereford, Coach Hill graduated from |
|
|
Clovis High School in New Mexico and subsequently earned a |
|
|
bachelor's degree from Eastern New Mexico University; he gained |
|
|
coaching experience at Royal High School in Brookshire and at |
|
|
Chávez, Memorial, and Westbury High Schools in Houston before being |
|
|
hired as head football coach at the Kinkaid School; during his |
|
|
tenure, the Falcons won the Southwest Preparatory Conference |
|
|
Division I state title in 2010 and 2011 and the Texas State 7on7 |
|
|
Association crown in 2011 and 2013; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Coach Hill next served as offensive quality control |
|
|
coach at Rice University, helping the Owls to earn the Conference |
|
|
USA title and an invitation to play in the Autozone Liberty Bowl in |
|
|
2013; the following year, he was tapped as head coach for St. Pius X |
|
|
High, and he took the Panthers to the TAPPS regional finals in his |
|
|
inaugural season and to the state semifinals in 2015; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Highly respected by his peers, Coach Hill has |
|
|
garnered a host of prestigious accolades; his success during the |
|
|
2016 season was recognized with the Private High School Coach of the |
|
|
Year honor from the Touchdown Club of Houston, and he also received |
|
|
the club's 2012 Sportsmanship Award; in addition, he was named the |
|
|
2011 Coach of the Year by Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through his dedicated efforts, Stephen Hill has |
|
|
furthered the proud tradition of gridiron excellence at St. Pius X |
|
|
High School, and he is indeed deserving of special recognition; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Stephen Foster Hill on his |
|
|
achievements during the 2016 football season and throughout his |
|
|
coaching career and extend to him sincere best wishes for the |
|
|
future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Coach Hill as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
