R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness and |
|
generosity of Hattie Valerie Elizabeth Marshall of Houston, who |
|
passed away on April 17, 2017, at the age of 68; and |
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of James and Rolena Marshall, Hattie |
|
Marshall was born on August 22, 1948, in Houston, and she grew up |
|
with the companionship of four siblings, Sylvia, Elsie, Jeff, and |
|
James; a bright and dedicated student, she graduated from Jack |
|
Yates Senior High School in 1966 and went on to earn a bachelor's |
|
degree from Prairie View A&M University; she later received her |
|
master's degree from Texas Southern University, where she continued |
|
her education as a doctoral student; and |
|
WHEREAS, One week after her college graduation, Ms. Marshall |
|
accepted a position with the Houston Independent School District |
|
and embarked on a rewarding career as an educator and counselor that |
|
spanned more than four decades; she was highly supportive of her |
|
students, with whom she developed a strong rapport, and she earned |
|
the admiration and respect of her colleagues; and |
|
WHEREAS, A woman of deep faith, Ms. Marshall was a valued |
|
member of the Greater Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church |
|
community; and |
|
WHEREAS, Hattie Marshall will be remembered for her |
|
eloquence, her warmth, and her sense of style, and those who were |
|
fortunate enough to have known her will forever hold her close in |
|
their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Hattie Valerie |
|
Elizabeth Marshall and extend sincere condolences to her family and |
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Hattie |
|
Marshall. |
