| WHEREAS, Dr. Mark Henry is retiring as superintendent of the | ||
| Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District on December 31, | ||
| 2023, drawing to a close an exemplary career in education that has | ||
| spanned more than four decades; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Since taking the helm of Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in | ||
| 2011, Dr. Henry has guided the district through a period of | ||
| significant growth, including the addition of nine new campuses and | ||
| the passage of two bond programs to address increased enrollment | ||
| through facility renovations, transportation upgrades, and safety | ||
| and security enhancements; under his leadership, the district | ||
| improved academic achievement and earned an A rating from the Texas | ||
| Education Agency; in addition, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD earned the | ||
| H-E-B Excellence in Education Award and was named Best Overall in | ||
| Academic Performance and Financial Performance by the Education | ||
| Resource Group; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Dr. Henry previously served as superintendent of | ||
| the Galena Park, Sulphur Springs, Collinsville, and Milford | ||
| Independent School Districts; he holds a bachelor's degree from The | ||
| University of Texas at Arlington and a master's degree and | ||
| doctorate from the University of North Texas; he has been named the | ||
| Education Service Center Region 4 Superintendent of the Year and | ||
| the Association of Texas Professional Educators Texas | ||
| Administrator of the Year, and he was a finalist for the Texas | ||
| Superintendent of the Year award; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This esteemed educator is a member of the Texas | ||
| Association of School Administrators, and he has served as chair of | ||
| the University Interscholastic League Legislative Council, as vice | ||
| chair of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, and chair of the | ||
| Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce; he is currently a trustee of | ||
| the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation Leadership Committee and HCA | ||
| Houston Healthcare; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Henry enjoys the love and | ||
| support of a fine family that includes his wife, Cindy, and their | ||
| three children and seven grandchildren; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Through his professionalism, dedication, and | ||
| commitment to excellence, Mark Henry has earned the respect and | ||
| admiration of his colleagues, and he may indeed reflect with pride | ||
| on his many contributions as he begins the next exciting chapter of | ||
| his life; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Mark Henry on his retirement as | ||
| superintendent of the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School | ||
| District and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, | ||
| be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Dr. Henry as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
