R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A full and generous life came to an end with the |
|
death of Tom Weeks Foster of Arlington on December 17, 2011, at the |
|
age of 91; and |
|
WHEREAS, Tom Foster was born in Iredell on August 6, 1920, to |
|
Emmett Boyd Foster and Zuellah Weeks Foster; his family moved to |
|
Arlington in 1922, and he graduated from Arlington High School and |
|
attended North Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College; and |
|
WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty during World War |
|
II, Mr. Foster joined the U.S. Army Air Forces, where he worked as a |
|
mechanic on the engines of B-26 Marauder aircraft and then was an |
|
instructor on the maintenance and repair of the Pratt & Whitney |
|
R-2800 engine; and |
|
WHEREAS, After the war, Mr. Foster returned to Texas and |
|
joined his family's wholesale poultry and egg business, and in |
|
1970, he started the T. W. Foster Construction company; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1941, Mr. Foster married the former Clevie |
|
Winnell Stough, and they shared a fulfilling relationship for |
|
nearly 70 years; together they were blessed with 2 children, |
|
Rebecca and Tommy, 7 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Foster served his community as a trustee and |
|
president of the Arlington school board, and Foster Elementary |
|
School was named in honor of him and his sister Maude, who was an |
|
Arlington ISD teacher; he attended First United Methodist Church in |
|
Arlington for nearly his entire life, and he was active on many of |
|
the church's boards and committees; in addition, he represented his |
|
profession as president of the Fort Worth chapter of the Associated |
|
General Contractors of America; and |
|
WHEREAS, A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Tom |
|
Foster treasured the time he spent in the company of his family and |
|
friends, and those he leaves behind will in turn cherish their |
|
memories of this kind and caring man; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Tom Weeks Foster and |
|
extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
|
wife, Clevie Foster; to his daughter, Rebecca Johnson, and her |
|
husband, Dick; to his son, Tommy Foster, and his wife, Karen; to his |
|
grandchildren, Jeff Coleman, Brett Coleman, Brian Coleman, Heather |
|
Sautter, Abby Foster, T. W. Foster III, and Peyton Thomas; to his 11 |
|
great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Tom Weeks |
|
Foster. |
