R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, John Lavender retired as the Kerr County constable |
|
for Precinct 1 in December 2016, drawing to a close an outstanding |
|
career in law enforcement that spanned nearly three decades; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in the Texas Panhandle, Mr. Lavender moved to |
|
Kerr County in 1969 to become a vocational auto mechanics teacher at |
|
Tivy High School; during his 30 years as an educator, he pursued his |
|
interest in law enforcement by enrolling in a summer police academy |
|
at Sul Ross State University, and in 1988 he took a part-time job as |
|
a patrol deputy for the Kerr County Sheriff's Office; and |
|
WHEREAS, After retiring from teaching in 1999, Mr. Lavender |
|
began working full-time at the sheriff's office, where he served as |
|
a patrol sergeant and evidence officer; in 2005, he earned master |
|
peace officer certification, and two years later, he was appointed |
|
constable for Precinct 1, a position for which he successfully |
|
sought election in 2008 and 2012; and |
|
WHEREAS, In his retirement, Mr. Lavender plans to travel and |
|
to spend more time with his wife of 43 years, Rosa, as well as with |
|
their three children, six grandchildren, and seven |
|
great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, John Lavender's mastery of his chosen vocation and |
|
his deep dedication to public service have greatly benefited the |
|
citizens of Kerr County, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a |
|
career well spent as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his |
|
life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate John Lavender on his retirement as |
|
Kerr County constable and extend to him sincere best wishes for the |
|
future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Lavender as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
