R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |
|
death of banker and community leader Clyde Brady of Quitman on |
|
November 4, 2014, at the age of 94; and |
|
WHEREAS, Clyde Brady was born in Winnsboro on April 18, 1920, |
|
to Joe and Mattie Rushing Brady; after graduating from Quitman High |
|
School, he joined the U.S. Army during World War II and served with |
|
the 90th Infantry Division of the Third Army; he took part in the |
|
D-Day invasion, and he was wounded while fighting 17 miles behind |
|
German lines; he earned the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars for |
|
his courageous service; and |
|
WHEREAS, After returning home, Mr. Brady was joined in |
|
matrimony to the former Susan Stanberry in 1946, and they shared a |
|
rewarding marriage that spanned 57 years before Mrs. Brady passed |
|
away in 2003; the couple were the parents of three children, |
|
Shirley, Debra, and Tom, who preceded his father in death; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1948, Mr. Brady took what he thought was a summer |
|
bookkeeping job with First National Bank of Quitman, but he stayed |
|
with the bank for his entire 40-year career, earning promotion to |
|
vice president and cashier in 1963, winning an appointment to the |
|
board of directors in 1967, and taking over as president in 1976, a |
|
position he held until his retirement in 1989; and |
|
WHEREAS, A respected figure in the Quitman area and beyond, |
|
Mr. Brady served on the boards of the Myrtle Springs Cemetery |
|
Association, the Federal Land Bank Association, the Texas Baptist |
|
Children's Home, Jacksonville Baptist College, and the Wood County |
|
Electric Cooperative; and |
|
WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family and his community, |
|
Clyde Brady made a meaningful difference in the lives of his loved |
|
ones and fellow citizens alike, and his contributions will be |
|
fondly remembered for years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Clyde Brady and extend |
|
sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his daughters, |
|
Shirley Rushing and her husband, Billy, and Debra Holcombe and her |
|
husband, Bob; to his grandchildren, Heather Rushing Taylor and her |
|
husband, Jeremy, Corie Rushing Littlejohn and her husband, J. B., |
|
Brady Holcombe, Brandi Holcombe, and Britney Holcombe; to his |
|
great-grandchildren, Jozie and Gavin Taylor and Makena, Kyler, and |
|
Cooper Littlejohn; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Clyde |
|
Brady. |
