WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and | ||
meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends | ||
of Joe Henry Copes of Woodville, who passed away on February 13, | ||
2017, at the age of 73; and | ||
WHEREAS, The son of Beatrice Jackson-Copes and the Reverend | ||
Charles Copes, Joe Copes was born on September 13, 1943, in the | ||
small rural community of Dies in Tyler County and grew up with five | ||
siblings, Maxine, Josephine, Charlene, Wanda, and Herbert; he | ||
attended Scott High School in nearby Woodville and went on to serve | ||
his country as a member of the U.S. Army; and | ||
WHEREAS, A hardworking and dedicated employee, Mr. Copes | ||
enjoyed a successful career at Keller Industries, and he later took | ||
a job with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners; he | ||
spent two decades traveling across the country as a union | ||
representative before eventually retiring; he was also an active | ||
member of the NAACP; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Copes took great pride in his 4 children, Gerry, | ||
Corey, Sheila, and Tanya, and he was further blessed with 13 | ||
grandchildren, Jason, Sylvia, Lakeidra, Phenomia, Blake, Isaac, | ||
Mataya, Carter, Darus, Savian, Monica, Veronica, and Vernon, as | ||
well as 8 great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Joe Copes will | ||
remember the way he touched their lives with his wisdom and strength | ||
of character, and he will forever be remembered with great | ||
admiration; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Joe Henry Copes and | ||
extend sincere condolences to his many relatives and friends; and, | ||
be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Joe Copes. | ||
