| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. REVIEW OF STAAR AND STAAR ALTERNATE ASSESSMENT | ||
| INSTRUMENTS. (a) The Texas Education Agency shall review each | ||
| assessment instrument included in the State of Texas Assessments of | ||
| Academic Readiness (STAAR) or the State of Texas Assessments of | ||
| Academic Readiness Alternate (STAAR Alternate) to determine | ||
| whether the assessment instrument is able to accurately measure | ||
| student success. | ||
| (b) In conducting the review, the agency shall provide | ||
| opportunity for comment by parents, educators, and other interested | ||
| parties. | ||
| SECTION 2. REPORT. Not later than July 1, 2014, the Texas | ||
| Education Agency shall submit a report containing the results of | ||
| the review required by this Act to the governor, lieutenant | ||
| governor, and members of the legislature. | ||
| SECTION 3. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect | ||
| immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members | ||
| elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas | ||
| Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for | ||
| immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2013. | ||
