A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to newborn screening tests for sex chromosome structure. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 33, Health and Safety |
|
|
Code, is amended by adding Section 33.0022 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 33.0022. SEX CHROMOSOME STRUCTURE TEST. |
|
|
Notwithstanding any other provision of this chapter, the department |
|
|
shall include a sex chromosome structure test in the detection and |
|
|
treatment program established under this chapter, in the screening |
|
|
for heritable diseases conducted under Subchapter B, and in the |
|
|
newborn screening services provided under Subchapter C. |
|
|
SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date |
|
|
of this Act, the Department of State Health Services shall |
|
|
implement Section 33.0022, Health and Safety Code, as added by this |
|
|
Act. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
