A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the use of light-emitting diode (LED) light bulbs in |
|
|
state buildings. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 2165.009, Government Code, is amended to |
|
|
read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 2165.009. ENERGY-EFFICIENT LIGHT BULBS IN STATE |
|
|
BUILDINGS. (a) Except as provided by Subsection (b), a [A] state |
|
|
agency or institution of higher education in charge and control of a |
|
|
state building shall purchase for use in each type of light fixture |
|
|
in the building the commercially available model of light-emitting |
|
|
diode (LED) light bulb that: |
|
|
(1) uses the fewest watts for the necessary luminous |
|
|
flux or light output; and |
|
|
(2) is compatible with the light fixture. |
|
|
(b) A state agency or institution of higher education under |
|
|
Subsection (a) may purchase a light bulb other than an LED light |
|
|
bulb if the use of an LED light bulb is incompatible with the light |
|
|
fixture or is otherwise impracticable. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
