A JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment mandating the legislature to |
|
require candidates for public elective office in this state to |
|
undergo drug screening. |
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is amended by |
|
adding Section 74 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 74. Notwithstanding any other provision of this |
|
constitution, including provisions prescribing exclusive |
|
eligibility requirements to hold a public elective office in this |
|
state, the legislature shall provide by general law that a |
|
candidate for public elective office in this state must submit to a |
|
controlled substance use screening assessment. |
|
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 5, 2013. |
|
The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the |
|
proposition: "The constitutional amendment mandating the |
|
legislature to require candidates for public elective office in |
|
this state to undergo drug screening." |
