William Wallace Bay |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Dr. William Wallace Bay, who died May |
|
29, 2013, at the age of 89; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Wallace Bay was born October 9, 1923, near |
|
Killeen; as a young man, he dedicated himself to numerous |
|
activities, including athletics, working in the family grocery |
|
store, and the Future Farmers of America; he was salutatorian of |
|
the Class of 1941 at Killeen High School; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, His studies at Texas A&M University were |
|
interrupted by military service in the United States Navy during |
|
World War II; after the war, he returned to the university and |
|
earned degrees in dairy science and veterinary medicine; he also |
|
earned a master's degree and a doctoral degree in veterinary |
|
pathology from Purdue University; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He married his childhood sweetheart, Mary |
|
Margaret Goodnight, on September 15, 1943; the couple raised two |
|
children, Richard Scott Bay and Marcia Sue Bay, and they were |
|
blessed with three grandchildren and a great-grandchild; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Bay taught for many years at the Texas A&M |
|
University College of Veterinary Medicine and retired in 1982 as |
|
professor emeritus; he participated in numerous research |
|
projects that resulted in publication and served as associate |
|
dean for academic affairs; he was chosen to represent the United |
|
States at veterinary conferences in the People's Republic of |
|
China in 1982 and in New Zealand and Australia in 1983; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Active in community affairs, he was the first |
|
president of the board of trustees for Central Texas College and |
|
served on the board of the Killeen Independent School District, |
|
and he was a member of the Killeen and College Station Lions |
|
Clubs; a devout Christian who practiced his faith in his daily |
|
life, he was a longtime elder at A&M Church of Christ; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he |
|
gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued |
|
counsel will not be forgotten; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and |
|
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured |
|
forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
83rd Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere |
|
condolences to the bereaved family of Dr. William Wallace Bay; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the |
|
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do |
|
so in memory of Dr. William Wallace Bay. |
