SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 605
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
recognize the Covenant Classical School mock trial team for |
|
winning the 2023 Texas High School Mock Trial Competition in |
|
Dallas on March 4, 2023; and |
|
WHEREAS, Covenant Classical School in Fort Worth, a |
|
Christian classical school with 118 high school students, |
|
competed against 23 school teams to win the state championship at |
|
the 44th Annual Texas High School Mock Trial Competition at the |
|
George L. Allen Sr. Courts Building; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Dallas Bar Association Mock Trial Committee |
|
administers the statewide high school mock trial program, which |
|
was established to help students gain insight into courtroom |
|
procedure and develop skills in critical thinking and analysis; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Covenant Classical School's team was assigned a |
|
fictitious case for which the students were prepared by attorneys |
|
and judges to roleplay from the perspective of every trial |
|
participant; and |
|
WHEREAS, Covenant Classical School's team comprises of |
|
bright, ambitious students who have demonstrated an impressive |
|
commitment to excellence; under the guidance of coordinators |
|
Judge Josh Burgess and attorney Scott Fredricks and team captains |
|
Sophia Foster and Jonathan Fredricks, team members Emerson |
|
Espanet, Elizabeth Farah, Nancy Jageman, Bridgett Kennedy, |
|
Daniel Keyes, Ellie Monwai, Sachi Monwai, Gracie Patel, Emma |
|
Pharris, Nate Smith, and Claire Tollefson performed with |
|
distinction, and the team was recognized by their fellow |
|
competitors at the mock trial competition with the Team |
|
Professionalism Award; and |
|
WHEREAS, Due to the team's hard work and exemplary |
|
performance, Covenant Classical School will represent the State |
|
of Texas at this year's National High School Mock Trial |
|
Competition, which takes place May 18 through 20, 2023, in Little |
|
Rock, Arkansas; team members have demonstrated outstanding |
|
dedication, fine sportsmanship, and excellent teamwork |
|
throughout the school year, and they are a source of tremendous |
|
pride to their families, their school, and the Fort Worth |
|
community; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|
Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Covenant |
|
Classical School mock trial team on winning the 2023 Texas High |
|
School Mock Trial Competition and extend to them best wishes for |
|
success at their appearance in the national competition in May; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
