SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 721
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the Texas Water Development Board on the occasion of
  the 60th anniversary of its creation; and
 
         WHEREAS, In response to the state's devastating drought of
  the 1950s, the Texas Water Development Board was created by a
  legislative act and a constitutional amendment approved by Texas
  voters in 1957; and
 
         WHEREAS, This landmark legislation provided for the
  issuance and sale of bonds to provide financial assistance for
  the conservation and development of the state's water resources
  and created an agency to administer the fund; and
 
         WHEREAS, Today, the Texas Water Development Board provides
  water planning, data collection and dissemination, financial
  assistance, and technical assistance services to the citizens of
  Texas; these services help maintain the viability of the state's
  natural resources, health, and economic development; and
 
         WHEREAS, By providing approximately $23 billion in financial
  assistance to Texas communities and overseeing the development of
  nine state water plans over the course of its history, the Texas
  Water Development Board has facilitated the orderly and responsible
  development, management, and conservation of the state's water
  resources, and the board is truly deserving of special recognition
  for this exceptional work; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the Texas Water Development
  Board on the occasion of its 60th anniversary and extend to its
  board members, management, and staff best wishes for continued
  success with their important work; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the board as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
