Carl Brian Vernon | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
citizens of Lago Vista in mourning the loss of Carl Brian Vernon, | ||
who died February 2, 2011, at the age of 53; and | ||
WHEREAS, Carl Vernon was born August 31, 1957, in San | ||
Diego, California; he was a 1975 graduate of Del Valle High | ||
School, where he was a member of the track and cross-country | ||
teams; he also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 14; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Known for his adventurous spirit and his love of | ||
the outdoors, Mr. Vernon participated in sailing, scuba diving, | ||
hang gliding, sky diving, snowboarding, and windsurfing; above | ||
all, he loved to fly; he was an enthusiastic and skilled pilot and | ||
aircraft mechanic who founded Lone Star Aercraft and served as a | ||
civilian instructor for American military test pilot training | ||
programs; and | ||
WHEREAS, He organized the flyovers of the Lago Vista Air | ||
Force at the community's annual Fourth of July event for many | ||
years, and in 1990, he completed a solo flight across the | ||
Atlantic Ocean in a Cessna 206 aircraft; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Vernon was active in numerous other community | ||
activities; he led many young men to become Eagle Scouts as a | ||
scoutmaster for Troop 198 and served as chair of Saint Mary's | ||
Catholic Church Octoberfest celebration; and | ||
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he | ||
gave unselfishly to others, and his generous spirit and his | ||
enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be | ||
forgotten by those who knew him; and | ||
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and his | ||
family and many friends will long cherish the memories of his | ||
life and his many achievements; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family of Carl Brian Vernon: his wife, Rachel; his children, | ||
Brian, Matthew, Garrett, and Sierra; his mother, Rose Vernon; and | ||
his siblings, Gina, John, Terri, Colleen, and Kevin; and, be it | ||
further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, | ||
and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of | ||
Carl Brian Vernon. | ||
