Renovate the Rotunda
|
1
|
Renovates the Rotunda to address the integrity of
the building envelope and the building's ability to serve its current program,
as well as some associated cosmetic issues, and will complete repairs to the
building envelope to ensure its long-term preservation. Rehabilitation is needed
within the Rotunda and its four wings, and the contiguous landscape features
of the North Plaza and two courtyard gardens. Renovations will implement the
Historic Structure Report repair recommendations. Repairs will address
existing and ongoing damage such earthquake plaster damage, water leakage and
structural deterioration beneath the north stairs, elevator problems, and
HVAC, plumbing, electrical and fire safety issues. The marble Corinthian
capitals on each portico are failing and need to be replaced. The elevator is
unreliable, and is needed for both barrier-free access and catering support
for events in the Dome Room. In addition, the aging building systems will be
improved to enhance the building's operation with the repairs and replacement
of electrical, data, plumbing, fire detection and suppression and HVAC
equipment.
