Electric utility customer account information; warrant required. A. For purposes of this section: "Customer account information" means the customer's name, phone number, social security number, or other identifying information; the customer's address where electric utility service is provided; and the amount of electric utility service provided to a customer or the amount of money paid by the customer for such electric utility service. "Electric utility" has the same meaning as provided in §56-576. B. An electric utility shall not disclose any customer account information without the consent of the customer except pursuant to a search warrant issued by a judicial officer pursuant to §§19.2-52 and 19.2-54. However, an electric utility may release customer account information that has been transformed into a statistical or aggregate form that does not allow the identification of a particular customer. Evidence obtained in violation of this section is not admissible in any criminal or civil proceeding. |
