WHEREAS, Lucindy Lawson, an exceptional young athlete in Scott County, received the Allstate Foundation/Virginia High School League Achievement Award in May 2015; and WHEREAS, the Allstate Foundation/Virginia High School League (VHSL) Achievement Awards are presented to students who have demonstrated excellence in an athletic or academic program while overcoming illness, injury, or disability; and WHEREAS, a standout in multiple sports at Rye Cove High School, Lucindy Lawson plays basketball and softball and runs on the track team; she is also an all-state volleyball player and holds the school record for digs in a game, season, and career; and WHEREAS, Lucindy Lawson overcame chronic low blood pressure, which caused lightheadedness and seizures, to achieve success in athletics; her perseverance and dedication is an inspiration to her fellow students and members of the community; and WHEREAS, Lucindy Lawson and an elite group of 19 other high school seniors from around the Commonwealth received the Allstate Foundation/Virginia High School League Achievement Award on May 11, 2015, at a special ceremony in Charlottesville; she is one of only two Scott County athletes to receive the award, the previous recipient of which is her older sister; and WHEREAS, Lucindy Lawson will attend the University of Virginia's College at Wise, where she plans to join the softball team and study radiation technology; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Lucindy Lawson, recipient of the 2015 Allstate Foundation/Virginia High School League Achievement Award, on her outstanding accomplishments; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Lucindy Lawson as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her perseverance and skill as an athlete. |
