WHEREAS, Gloria Randolph-King, an esteemed educator, education administrator, and active and beloved member of the Roanoke community, died on October 8, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Gloria Randolph-King devoted 40 years to the students of Roanoke City Public Schools as an educator and principal, contributing greatly to their success both in academics and life; and

WHEREAS, Gloria Randolph-King advanced civil rights and other issues as the first vice president of the Roanoke branch of the NAACP and as Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) chair and advisor of its NAACP Youth Council; and

WHEREAS, Gloria Randolph-King served others in her capacity as a golden life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and as president of its Roanoke alumnae chapter from 1994–1996; and

WHEREAS, Gloria Randolph-King empowered and uplifted others through her service as past president of the Roanoke chapter of Continental Societies, Inc., and as educational outreach chair for Women United for Community Action; and

WHEREAS, guided throughout her life by her faith, Gloria Randolph-King enjoyed worship and fellowship with her community at High Street Baptist Church in Roanoke, where she was a member of the educational services ministry; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her accomplishments and expertise, Gloria Randolph-King was appointed to the African American History Education Commission by Governor Ralph Northam to advise on ways to improve how African American history is taught in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Gloria Randolph-King will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by numerous family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Gloria Randolph-King, a treasured member of the Roanoke community whose kindness and generosity touched countless lives; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Gloria Randolph-King as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory.
