WHEREAS, the Honorable Charles Vic Mason, longtime Clerk of the King George County Circuit Court and the third generation of Mason to hold this distinguished position, retired in 2023; and
WHEREAS, Vic Mason was elected to serve as Clerk of the King George County Circuit Court in 1994 and for nearly three decades thereafter oversaw the effective and efficient administration of the court's procedures and operations; and
WHEREAS, in his role as clerk of the court, Vic Mason ably managed hundreds of different responsibilities, including serving as the recorder of deeds and as probate judge and as the official court administrator for all of the circuit court's civil and criminal cases; and
WHEREAS, Vic Mason greatly supported the mission of the Virginia Court Clerks Association as its president from 2009 to 2010 and in other leadership roles with the organization; and
WHEREAS, Vic Mason is an avid sportsman who from 2010 to 2020 shared his expertise as a hunter education instructor with the agency formerly known as the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries; he also fostered his interest in hunting through affiliations with the National Rifle Association and Ducks Unlimited; and
WHEREAS, Vic Mason has worked to support our nation's veterans through his involvement with Sons of The American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and the Fredericksburg Guard Association Foundation and as a volunteer with the annual Disabled Veterans Hunt at Caledon Natural Area in King George County; and
WHEREAS, Vic Mason served as director and treasurer of the Frazier-Mason Some Gave All Memorial Foundation, which was established in 2007 in memory of his son, United States Army sergeant Nicholas Conan Mason of King George County, as well as United States Marine sergeant Joshua James Frazier of Spotsylvania County; the organization has awarded nearly $500,000 since its founding to individuals and organizations in support of disabled veterans; and
WHEREAS, Vic Mason established and has served as director of the Sgt. Nicholas C. Mason Memorial Scholarship Fund, which has awarded more than $150,000 in scholarships to King George High School graduates since 2005; and
WHEREAS, through his tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to his purpose, Vic Mason has made a profound and lasting impact on the community of King George County; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Honorable Charles Vic Mason on the occasion of his retirement as Clerk of the King George County Circuit Court; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Honorable Charles Vic Mason as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his legacy of service and best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement.
