Celebrating the life of Elinor McManus.

WHEREAS, Elinor McManus, a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother and beloved member of her local community, died peacefully on December 2, 2023, in Jupiter, Florida; and

WHEREAS, Elinor McManus was born on May 29, 1930, in North Plainfield, New Jersey, and grew up in neighboring Westfield, New Jersey; and

WHEREAS, Elinor McManus received her high school diploma from Mount Saint Mary Academy and a bachelor's degree from Rosemont College in Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, after graduation, Elinor McManus pursued a career as a fifth-grade teacher and instilled the importance of lifelong learning in all of her students; and

WHEREAS, in 1955, Elinor McManus met her husband of 56 years, Edwin, and the couple raised six children in La Jolla, California, before returning to New Jersey and later moving to Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, in 1984, Elinor McManus and her late husband retired to Jonathan's Landing in Jupiter, Florida, where they formed a close circle of relatives and great friends; and

WHEREAS, in her retirement, Elinor McManus became an avid traveler, boater, bridge player, and golfer; she particularly excelled in golf by achieving a hole-in-one, winning the Captain's Cup at Jonathan's Landing Golf Club, and leading the Sunbirds League for many years; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by her husband, Edwin, Elinor McManus will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her brother, Carl; her six children Ed, Eleanor, Mary, John, Carl, and Matthew, and their families, including eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Elinor McManus, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and respected educator; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Elinor McManus as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory.
