WHEREAS, Bishop Kim W. Brown, presiding prelate of The Mount Global Fellowship of Churches and senior pastor at The Mount at Chesapeake, retired from his pastorship on February 25, 2024, as he transitions to the Office of Bishop of The Mount Global Fellowship of Churches; and
WHEREAS, after earning a bachelor's degree in engineering from Norfolk State University, Kim Brown heard the call to preach and acquired master's and doctoral degrees from the Samuel D. Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University; and
WHEREAS, Kim Brown joined what was then Mount Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church in Chesapeake in 1990 and has since then seen its congregation grow from 75 people to more than 13,000 over his 33-year tenure with the organization; and
WHEREAS, Kim Brown's creative and innovative approach to ministry has contributed greatly to the expansion of what is today The Mount Global Fellowship of Churches, which now has six campuses throughout the Hampton Roads Region of the Commonwealth and two campuses in North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, as senior pastor at The Mount at Chesapeake, Kim Brown has provided his congregation with uplifting spiritual guidance and counsel, as well as ample occasions for joyful worship and fellowship and opportunities for meaningful community outreach; and
WHEREAS, in 2001, Kim Brown founded K.W. Brown International Ministries, Inc., alongside his wife, Valerie, which has made a positive impact in countless lives over the years through myriad programs and services; and
WHEREAS, Kim Brown has been an active and engaged member of the Hampton Roads community and has fostered close ties with many fellow clergymen and other local leaders; and
WHEREAS, inspired by his unwavering commitment to the well-being of others, Kim Brown has given generously of his time for the betterment of his community as a member of the Chesapeake Hospital Authority, including a term as chair, as well as the Elizabeth City State University Board of Trustees and the Norfolk State University Board of Visitors; and
WHEREAS, Kim Brown has been honored with numerous awards and accolades in recognition of his accomplishments as a community and faith leader, including the 2017 First Citizen of Chesapeake award from the Chesapeake Rotary Club and the 2017 Trailblazer Award from Men for Hope; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Bishop Kim W. Brown on the occasion of his retirement as presiding prelate of The Mount Global Fellowship of Churches and as senior pastor at The Mount at Chesapeake; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bishop Kim W. Brown as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his legacy of service and best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement.
