Celebrating the life of Bennett Warburton Sutton.

WHEREAS, Bennett Warburton Sutton of Arlington, a dedicated employee of the International Monetary Fund for more than 20 years, died on March 26, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Bennett "Ben" Warburton Sutton was born in Colorado and grew up in Northern Virginia, where he graduated from Madison High School in Vienna; and

WHEREAS, Ben Sutton subsequently earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Mary Washington and a master's degree in economics from George Washington University; and

WHEREAS, Ben Sutton joined the International Monetary Fund in 1999 and served as a senior research officer; throughout his career, he cultivated a global network of friends and fellow economic professionals, and he served as a mentor to many of his colleagues as a representative for the Peers for a Respectful Workplace program; and

WHEREAS, Ben Sutton and his wife, Bethany, who is an elected member of the Arlington School Board, enjoyed many trips to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and the lakes and mountains of New England; he was an accomplished traveler who had visited numerous U.S. states, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, South America, and Europe and loved to explore new places on foot to better appreciate the local culture; and

WHEREAS, Ben Sutton was also a talented home cook who loved making meals for family and friends, and he was a passionate athlete who participated in coed soccer leagues in Arlington and hosted weekly badminton games in the atrium at the International Monetary Fund and in the backyard of his home; and

WHEREAS, Ben Sutton will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Bethany; his daughters, Luna and Cara; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Bennett Warburton Sutton; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Bennett Warburton Sutton as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
