HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 270
Commending Paulino D. Sambat, M.D.

WHEREAS, Paulino D. Sambat, M.D., who has touched countless lives and helped ensure the health and wellness of his fellow Spotsylvania County residents as a physician and surgeon, retired from Mary Washington Hospital in 2015; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Sambat began practicing medicine in 1972 and has cared for the residents of Spotsylvania County for many years, having been invited to serve the community by the Spotsylvania County Woman's Club; and

WHEREAS, over the course of his 43-year career in medicine, Dr. Sambat worked as a physician and general surgeon at Mary Washington Hospital until 2000, then worked in general practice; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Sambat also helped safeguard the members of the community by assisting with the formation of the Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad; he served as president and medical adviser of the rescue squad and provided free physical examinations to members; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Sambat generously volunteered at the Lloyd F. Moss Free Clinic, provided care for the residents of the Thurman Brisben Homeless Shelter, and started a free flu shot clinic at the North Central Virginia Association of Philippine Physicians, of which he has served as president; and

WHEREAS, working with the Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation and other programs, Dr. Sambat funded the construction of homes, wells, churches, and schools in the Philippines; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Sambat earned many accolades for his good work, including Man of the Year awards from the Spotsylvania Jaycees and the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Paulino D. Sambat, M.D., on the occasion of his retirement from Mary Washington Hospital; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Paulino D. Sambat, M.D., as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his tireless service to the residents of Spotsylvania County.
