WHEREAS, for more than 30 years, the Charlottesville Free Clinic has provided compassionate, comprehensive health care services to the uninsured and underinsured residents of the Charlottesville area; and
WHEREAS, in 1992, Dr. Paul DeMarco and Dr. Mohan Nadkarni envisioned a volunteer-driven clinic that would provide free, high-quality health care to the Charlottesville community, leading to the founding of the Charlottesville Free Clinic; and
WHEREAS, today, the Charlottesville Free Clinic operates out of the generosity of health care professionals who collectively volunteer more than 14,000 hours of their time each year; and
WHEREAS, the Charlottesville Free Clinic provides care by engaging more than 700 volunteer health care professionals from the University of Virginia Health System, Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital, and other community practices to provide free medical care, mental health support, prescription drugs, and dental services; and
WHEREAS, each year, the Charlottesville Free Clinic serves more than 2,600 medical and dental patients and services more than 8,000 visits to its clinic; and
WHEREAS, more than 500 companies in the Charlottesville area have at least one employee who is a patient of the Charlottesville Free Clinic; and
WHEREAS, the Charlottesville Free Clinic is actively expanding to meet the needs of the growing Charlottesville metro area; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Charlottesville Free Clinic for its legacy of service; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to representatives of the Charlottesville Free Clinic as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's contributions to the Commonwealth.
