HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 133
Commending Anna Sudha Community Kitchens.

WHEREAS, Anna Sudha Community Kitchens, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing healthy, nutritious, and economical food to all, has greatly served the Northern Virginia community since 2021; and

WHEREAS, Anna Sudha Community Kitchens was founded by Nupur Panjabi, with support from other members of the Indian American community in Northern Virginia, during the COVID-19 pandemic; and

WHEREAS, Anna Sudha Community Kitchens served more than 2,000 free meals in its first year and opened a new space in the Dulles Town Center in Loudoun County in January 2023 to broaden and enhance its impact in the community; and

WHEREAS, with the support of more than 300 volunteers, Anna Sudha Community Kitchens has prepared and delivered more than 40,000 meals to individuals and families in need; and

WHEREAS, in addition to serving as a reliable food supplier to local homeless shelters and senior citizens, Anna Sudha Community Kitchens furthers its mission by stocking a free food pantry, where members of the community may acquire essential groceries and nonperishable items such as rice, beans, flour, pasta, and more; and

WHEREAS, Anna Sudha Community Kitchens supports its endeavors through donations, by offering daily vegetarian Indian meals at its store and pickup locations throughout Northern Virginia, and by catering at local events, raising more than $85,000 for its community-giving initiatives since the organization's founding; and

WHEREAS, in addition to supporting local organizations such as Mobile Hope, the Loudoun Literacy Council, the Embry Rucker Community Shelter in Reston, and the Carpenter's Shelter in Alexandria, Anna Sudha Community Kitchens also supports charitable organizations in India, including Sphoorti Foundation, the Lotus Petal Foundation, and the Chinmaya Organization for Rural Development; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Anna Sudha Community Kitchens in combating hunger throughout Northern Virginia are the result of the vision and dedication of its board members, the unwavering support of its community partners, and the tireless and selfless efforts of its many volunteers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Anna Sudha Community Kitchens hereby be commended for its commitment to ending food insecurity in the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Anna Sudha Community Kitchens as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's mission and best wishes for its continued success.
