HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 257 Commending the Broad Run High School wrestling team.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 20, 2015

WHEREAS, the Broad Run High School wrestling team defeated five other schools to win the Virginia High School League Group 5A Conference 14 wrestling tournament on February 6, 2015; and

WHEREAS, the Broad Run High School Spartans from Ashburn in Loudoun County emerged victorious with a final score of 217 points over its closest competitor, Freedom High School, which scored 191 points; and

WHEREAS, two members of the Broad Run High School wrestling team won individual championships at the meet; Timmy Brown won in the 113-pound class and Brandon Steel was the winner of the 182-pound class; and

WHEREAS, additionally, five Spartans were runners-up in their weight classes: Tyler Corbo, Daniel Giglio, Paolo Cardella, Michael Battista, and Ewen Riordan; and four wrestlers scored third-place finishes: Spencer Evans, Mateo Rodriguez, Nick Taylor, and Jacob Puterio; and

WHEREAS, the all-around strength of the wrestling team was most gratifying to Broad Run High School wrestling coach JJ Totaro; some team members who also play football were encouraged to join the wrestling team, and their talent and skill contributed to the team's impressive win; and

WHEREAS, the 2015 victory is the Broad Run High School wrestling team's first conference win since 1995; Coach Totaro credited the win to the hard work of the entire team�especially those wrestlers who did more than was asked of them; and

WHEREAS, the talented and motivated Spartans received strong support from their families and from the students, faculty, and staff of Broad Run High School throughout the wrestling season�all of those factors also contributed to the team's outstanding performance; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Broad Run High School wrestling team hereby be commended for winning the 2015 Virginia High School League Group 5A Conference 14 wrestling tournament; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach JJ Totaro and Assistant Coach Josh Costa of the Broad Run High School wrestling team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' congratulations and admiration for the wrestling team's outstanding achievement.
