WHEREAS, SiliconAndhra ManaBadi is a global, nonprofit, volunteer-run organization dedicated to teaching students the ancient South Asian language of Telugu and about aspects of Telugu heritage and culture; and
WHEREAS, founded in 2007, SiliconAndhra ManaBadi offers a six-year language learning program in which students develop skills in reading, writing, and speaking Telugu and a deeper understanding of Telugu customs and values; and
WHEREAS, SiliconAndhra ManaBadi currently has more than 10,000 students enrolled at locations in more than 35 states and 12 different countries, including six centers in Northern Virginia and one in Richmond; and
WHEREAS, the first SiliconAndhra ManaBadi center in the Commonwealth was established in Chantilly in 2007 shortly after the global organization was founded; and
WHEREAS, more than 95,000 individuals have graduated from the SiliconAndhra ManaBadi program since its founding, nurturing the vitality of the Telugu community in the United States and abroad; and
WHEREAS, students at SiliconAndhra ManaBadi have the opportunity to earn world language credits to apply toward their high school diplomas and, in many cases, acquire the ability to better communicate and connect with the non-English-speaking members of their families; and
WHEREAS, for graduates of the program, SiliconAndhra ManaBadi offers opportunities to serve as a teaching assistant or to participate in the many cultural programs the organization hosts; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of SiliconAndhra ManaBadi are the result of the tireless efforts of the hundreds of volunteers who support the organization's programs; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That SiliconAndhra ManaBadi hereby be commended for its legacy of service in teaching young people the Telugu language and about Telugu heritage and culture; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to SiliconAndhra ManaBadi as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's mission and achievements.
