HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 38
Celebrating the life of Keith Kessler.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 13, 2010

WHEREAS, Keith Kessler of Woodbridge, a health care reform activist whose passion positively affected the lives of many, died on February 18, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Keith Kessler was born in Toledo, Ohio, on September 8, 1950, to loving parents Dewey Leighton Kessler and Joan Sheldon-Kessler and was one of seven siblings; he moved to Virginia in 1980; and

WHEREAS, a man of many talents and interests, Keith Kessler enjoyed playing guitar in his early years and was the leader of his own band, Shades of Purple; he also loved the outdoors, boating, fishing, and flying and dabbled in several businesses; and

WHEREAS, a sports injury in his early years left Keith Kessler a quadriplegic; he rose above his physical obstacles and dedicated himself to fighting for the disabled, the elderly, and those with special needs; and

WHEREAS, a determined man, Keith Kessler's voice was heard by many state governors and he founded the Disabled Action Committee as a way to unite those who advocated for the disabled; and

WHEREAS, recognized for his knowledge and experience, Keith Kessler was appointed to serve on many state boards, committees, and commissions and influenced millions of voters nationwide; and

WHEREAS, Keith Kessler's lifetime of hard work and efforts on behalf of those who in many instances could not fight for themselves speaks volumes about his own character, strength, and will; and

WHEREAS, Keith Kessler will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his brother Dewey; his sisters Jean, Janet, Kathleen (his twin), Sheila, and Kerri and their families; and by numerous other family members, friends, and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Keith Kessler, a dedicated and compassionate activist; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Keith Kessler as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
