12104084D Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia: 1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 15.2-7207.1 as follows: §15.2-7207.1. Authority to purchase private cable television systems; authority to operate. A. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Authority is hereby granted the authority to purchase any private cable television system located within the territory in which it is authorized to provide telecommunications and Internet services; however, nothing contained herein shall authorize the authority to acquire such private cable systems by eminent domain. B. The Authority is authorized to provide cable television service in any county in which a private cable television service purchased pursuant to subsection A was located. The Authority may provide cable television service in any town located within such county. C. The Authority is further authorized to provide cable television service in any county or city located within the territory in which it is authorized to provide telecommunications and Internet services and which is abutted by at least two counties in which it is authorized to provide cable television service pursuant to subsection B. |
