Commending Irvin Lewis Powell.

WHEREAS, Irvin Lewis Powell was born on February 18, 1938, the oldest of 22 children born to loving parents George Washington Powell and Mary Davis Powell; and

WHEREAS, Irvin Lewis Powell was raised in Emporia, Virginia, and attended high school in the area; and

WHEREAS, Irvin Lewis Powell was married for 44 years to Bertha Powell and had one son, Kevin Lewis Powell; and

WHEREAS, Irvin Lewis Powell began to work at the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles on the third Wednesday in January, 1963, and continues to work at that agency; and

WHEREAS, Irvin Lewis Powell walked to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles from his home in Eastern Henrico every work day for many years; and

WHEREAS, Irvin Lewis Powell has faithfully served the Commonwealth of Virginia under 12 governors and six commissioners; and

WHEREAS, Irvin Lewis Powell is cherished and admired by the staff of the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles for his positive attitude and his exemplary work ethic; and

WHEREAS, Irvin Lewis Powell has brought great credit to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles through his distinguished and dedicated service; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Irvin Lewis Powell on his 47 years of dedicated service to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for his faithful and dedicated service to the Commonwealth of Virginia.
